Home Readers

Thank you to everyone for reading with your child/children at home. I understand that sometimes this may not be the easiest of tasks to complete, and I appreciate your patience and effort.

It is extremely important for your child/children to be reading at home as well as at school. It helps them to understand that learning goes on outside of school and that you as their parents are also an important part in the learning process. It is also really great practice!

If you are having difficulties getting your child to read please do not hesitate to contact me in person or via your child’s communication book and I will be more than happy to schedule a meeting to discuss this with you.

Text Box: Home Mastery Folders You will notice that in your child’s bag that there is a blue manila folder with a label that read’s “My Mastery Folder”, this folder contains sight words or alphabet cards for your child to practice reading. Each child’s collection of sight words or alphabet cards have been selected to suit their individual needs. The mastery folder works like this: 1.	Select the word or alphabet cards out of a pocket (starting from the lowest numbered pocket) 2.	If you child has sight word cards they need to read the words (they must read them confidently without sounding them out). If your child has alphabet cards they need to say the name of the letter and the sound that it makes (they must say both the name and sound to have it correct) 3.	If your child gets the word or letter correct they can move it into the next pocket of the mastery folder 4.	If your child does not correctly read the word or letter it then goes back into the same pocket that you pulled it out of 5.	When your child has all of their word or letters in the last pocket they may then bring their folder back into class and I will test them and give them new cards Happy reading!
