News from Miss Arkell’s classes
Hello to all the members of the Cunderdin DHS community! My name is Cecily Arkell and I am the science teacher for years 1-10 and the maths teacher for years 7-10. This page will let you know what the students have been up to in my science and maths classes.
In science class, the year 1, year 2/3 and year 4/5 class have adopted a class pet. He’s a very special “air fish” who followed me home from Japan. He’s very smart so he’s able to remember three different names as each class have had the chance to name him! We’ll be learning all about how to care for our pets and what animals need to survive.
The year 6 class is learning all about plants and they are so keen to find out more! I’m hoping to get some plants growing soon. The year 7/8 class has started the term with some geology then we’ll be moving on to learning some biology. So far we’ve made sandwiches to represent the layers in sedimentary rocks and taken core samples of our ‘sedimentary sandwiches’ before having an afternoon snack! We also used a toilet roll to represent a timeline from the big bang to present day. The year 9/10 class is also studying biology and we did an interesting activity that demonstrated the effect bushfires have on biodiversity. We also surveyed the school yard to look at local biodiversity.
